Headphones and the hype machine – prozac for the workplace

November 14, 2008

As you know I’m inclined to wear headphones at work, but as you also can probably tell from the number of rants about daytime radio, I don’t wear them all the time.

Over the last couple of weeks, though, I have been wearing them all the time, or close enough (tuned to the hype machine, mostly), and it’s had a really positive effect on my mood. It’s great – not only do I shut out the pernicious effects of The Radio, the music seems to defuse that dangerous part of my mind that wanders off thinking about all the amazing stuff I could be doing if I wasn’t stuck in front of a damn computer.

John thinks it’s kinda depressing that I need to do that, but in the absence of an alternative source of income I think it’s better to do it than not do it.
